Holding Tools
A holding tool is a tool that firmly holds any material together.
Each holding tool is different but the common principles between them is that they all secure a piece of material when your working with it. Not every holding tool can be used for every material, this can be a common misconception and if you make this mistake then your work could become damaged - especially if you have applied a finish to the material.
Below is a table that I have created to display which holding tool can be used with Wood, Metal and Plastic.
The main Holding tool that I have used in the workshop is a carpenters and engineers bench vice. Above is a picture that displays an example of me using this tool.

- The tighter the holding tool the more support and secure the piece of material will be

- Students can often catch their fingers in the vices if not concentrating
- The tools can sometimes mark or scratch a piece of material that your working with
- If a student does not place the material properly in the vice the material can snap
